Lakeland Hills Addition
In August 1958, developer and builder Malcolm McCulloch announced that he had purchased a 350 acre tract of land Northeast of White Rock Lake to build 1,200 homes. The property was to be known as Lakeland Hills Addition, touched on Jupiter Rd and Kingsley Rd, and fronted the 11,000 block of Norhtwest Highway and was purchased from Longhorn Construction after they ceased development and construction of Lakeland Hills.
All custom built homes in Lakeland Hills Addition were designed by architect E. Kelly Gaffney, AIA, and were described as Contemporary Ranch, Early American Ranch, or French Colonial Ranch Style architecture. Homes in Lakeland Hills Addition were all brick three and four bedroom homes and boasted all electric kitchens, paneled dens, sliding glass patio doors, terrazzo entry, ceramic tile baths, central heat and air conditioning, and finished garages.
Malcolm McCulloch, along with business partner Roy E. Davidson founded Fairworth Homes / Fairworth Company Inc in Houston in 1947 and directed many major developments in the Houston area. Lakeland Hills Addition was Fairworth Homes first development in Dallas.
The first homes in the Lakeland Hills Addition were announced on October 25, 1959 and located on Paddock Circle. The lots on Paddock Circle were set along East Prong Dixon Branch and were offered for $20,000 - $30,000. Homes on Quail Run, Pelican, Whitewing, Shagrock, and Hackney Ln followed over the next six years.
